ABCRA Extends 2021 National Point Score to July 2022

The Australian Bushmen’s, Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA) will extend the 2021 National Point Score program to 31 July 2022, following the impacts of COVID-19.

The decision was made following lengthy discussions between Board members, the Rodeo and Campdraft Member's Representative Council, and zone councillors.

ABCRA Executive Officer, Craig Young, says the decision was made to ensure fairness for competitors.

“COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of many qualifying events and lockdowns and border closures have had a huge impact on competitor’s ability to travel.”

“We have a duty to our members and competitors, and so after numerous meetings this last month, all representative levels have agreed that an extension to July 2022 was the best possible solution.”

COVID-19 has had a huge impact on the ABCRA over the last 18-months, forcing the cancellation of the National Finals due to run in January this year.

The extension will now give competitors more time to earn rankings points and qualify for the main event.

“This year’s National Point Score program was due to wrap up in November, with the top-ranking competitors qualifying for the National Finals,” says Mr Young.

“The extension will ensure competitors right across the country get 12-months of full competition to qualify.”

The extension will also see a change in date for the National Finals.

Traditionally held in January, the ABCRA board will now run the event in late 2022.

“We will soon be announcing to members the new dates for the National Finals in 2022, but rest assured there will still be rodeo in Tamworth in January, with plans underway for a special event during the Country Music Festival,” says Mr Young.

Meanwhile, the ABCRA Board has also been working with event marketing experts for the past three years on a revitalisation plan for the National Finals.

“We are now starting to put that plan into action and I am excited that the ABCRA will be able to make some exciting announcements about a new look National Finals in the coming months,” says Mr Young.
